FAQs
Check-in, dogs, cancellations and the rest
The questions we answer most. If yours isn’t here, call us at (802) 555-0148 or write to stay@alderinnvt.com.
Your stay
What time are check-in and checkout?
Check-in is 3 to 7 pm and checkout is 11 am. Early arrival or late checkout is often possible when the room is free; ask Ellen a day ahead. If you’ll arrive after 7, tell us and we’ll leave a key and the porch light on.
Is breakfast included?
Yes, every room rate includes a hot breakfast from 8 to 9:30 in the dining room: pancakes or eggs, local sausage and bacon, granola, fruit and pastries. Margo cooks for allergies and vegetarians if you tell us when you request your stay.
Is there parking and Wi-Fi?
Parking is free beside the inn and the carriage house, with room for about 30 cars. Wi-Fi is free in every room and in the barn, though the signal fades on the far end of the fire-pit path.
Do you take children?
Children of all ages are welcome in the cottage and in the two-double rooms. The queen and king rooms are better suited to children over 8, and cribs are available on request in the carriage-house rooms.
Can I book a room on this site?
Not by the night. Room stays are requested through the form on our Contact page or by phone at (802) 555-0148, and we confirm availability by email, usually the same day. The visits you can book on this site are tours, tastings, a private breakfast, a fire-pit evening and a short call that holds a midweek stay.
Pets
Are dogs allowed?
Dogs are welcome in the cottage, which has a fenced yard: up to two, for $35 per dog per night. They’re not allowed in the main inn or the carriage-house rooms, because of guests with allergies. Service animals are welcome everywhere.
Can I leave my dog alone in the cottage?
For short stretches, such as a dinner in town, if your dog is crated or calm when you’re out. Please never leave a dog alone overnight or in the barn, and always tell us if your dog barks when left.
Cancellation
What’s your cancellation policy for rooms?
Cancel at least 7 days before arrival and your deposit is returned, minus a $25 fee. Within 7 days the first night is charged. During foliage (September 21 to October 25) and December 26 to January 1 we need 14 days. If we can fill the room, we’re glad to refund more.
What if a storm closes the roads?
Roads on Hollis Hill are plowed early, but if travel advisories keep you home we’ll move your stay to another date or refund the deposit in full. Call or email us and we’ll sort it out together.
Paying
How do I pay my deposit or balance?
We email you a secure payment link, so there’s no account to make and no card number to read out. Open it on your phone, pay, and you’ll get a receipt by email. See Book & pay for the full explanation.
Are taxes included in the rates?
No. Vermont rooms tax is added to your stay, and the rate on your confirmation email will show it. There are no resort fees or parking fees.
Weddings & events
How many guests does the barn hold?
Up to 120 seated at tables, 140 for a ceremony with rows of chairs, and 160 standing for a reception. The inn and cottage sleep 25 people, and we have a list of other places to stay in Stowe for the rest of your guests.
Do we have to use your kitchen?
No. Margo and the kitchen can cater from $58 a person, or you can bring a licensed caterer from our list. Alcohol must be served by a licensed bartender, and we can recommend two.
What if it rains?
The barn is the rain plan, and it’s a lovely one. Ceremonies move inside, cocktail hour moves to the lounge and the porch, and the fire pit waits for the sun.
Shop
Do you ship from the shop?
Yes, anywhere in the United States for $9.50, free over $100. Cheese and anything marked pickup-only stays at the inn, because it doesn’t ship well. Gift certificates are emailed the same day.
Do gift certificates expire?
No, they never expire. They can be used toward rooms, breakfasts, barn tastings and anything in the shop. To use one, mention it in your stay request or when you check out.
